Season’s geo-greetings from APT

Wow, 2020 really was an unexpectedly different year. Covid-19, sudden oil price drop in the spring, lockdowns, home office, face masks, greeting with the elbow and an abundance of online video meetings instead of meeting people face-to-face.

However, the most important for APT is that our team is healthy and safe, and we hope that you and your family is keeping well too!

I am writing this from my home office. As Covid-19 entered our lives, we quickly made the decision that only employees that need to be physically present at our laboratories to be able to conduct their job, should be at our facilities. For that reason, we have been able to offer full support to our clients throughout the entire year, both within geochemistry, biostratigraphy and petroleum systems analyses. As a result, our workload has actually been ok throughout 2020. A big thank you to our clients who have continued their exploration and field development work, despite all the challenges that have been presented to us this year.

In addition to supporting our clients 24/7, APT’s team has also delivered on a number of other exciting initiatives throughout 2020. For example:

  • We have initiated the APT Allomon® production and allocation initiative
  • We have completed development and started deliveries of our gas interpretation software Girasol
  • We conducted a detailed evaluation of the Southern Grand Banks petroleum system offshore Canada and identified until now unrecognised Lower Jurassic source rocks and a genetically related set of oil shows
  • We teamed up with FIC to provide a unique spectrum of post-well analyses for E&P companies
  • We launched a new website in August
  • We completed a study of the petroleum systems of the Flemish Pass, Outer Ridge and Northern Jeanne d’Arc basins, offshore Eastern Canada, and delivered some thought-provoking results
  • And we received research funding to develop an artificial intelligence solution that can dramatically change how oil companies utilise biostratigraphic services to plan drilling programmes and evaluate and assess hydrocarbon wells
  • We have also welcomed a couple of new employees and apprentices to APT in 2020

And much, much more.

I would like to give a big thank you to my resilient and skilful colleagues at APT for their continued drive and positive spirits throughout a very different year. I also want to thank our clients and business partners for their dedication and support. Let’s make 2021 an even better year.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
